Ecological Values and Environmental Awareness
Commitment to the environment is one of the keystones of Santa Eulària des Riu’s administrative philosophy. This commitment is evidenced in the municipality’s management of shared public resources and espoused via the informational signs posted at its beaches, its various offices and agencies, and on its website.
Our town hall’s dedication to conservation and protection has become a key feature of our local political agenda, which aspires to one primary objective: the sustainability of the municipality, coupled with a high quality of life for its residents and visitors.
As is manifest in our declaration of Environmental Commitment, we endeavour to work in conjunction with our citizens by implementing policies and specific measures aimed at preserving the cultural and natural value of our ecosystem.
In recent years, with this goal in mind, Santa Eulària has laid the groundwork for a long-range project in which the municipality works in diverse areas to promote a better quality of life for its residents.
• Waste management
• Coastal management
• Citizen participation
• Energy efficiency
• Water management
• Conservation of natural habitats and landscape enhancement
• Social improvements
• Air and noise pollution
Day by day, Santa Eulària improves its waste management, in aid of which we place selective trash collection containers throughout the entire municipality as well as at all beaches.
Our coastal management is carried out with sustainability as our first concern, whether in regard to the cleanliness of our beaches, the exploitation of our waters, the regulation of beaches to minimize impact on surrounding lands, or the volume of activity permitted on these spaces.
A measure of our success is that the municipality of
Santa Eulària des Riu was awarded the top certification in ISO 140001-Balearic Environmental Management for one of its beaches, the Santa Eulària beach. Moreover, in 2016, this same beach became the first Smoke-Free Beach in the Balearic Islands. Continual improvement is the fundamental axis around which our efforts in sustainability revolve. We currently have five beaches certified in accordance with environmental management standards, and we resolutely strive to increase that number.
The sustainable utilization of natural resources is the primary objective of the policies and programmes implemented by the town hall of Santa Eulària des Riu. Issues such as the efficient utilization of water; waste management; lowering energy consumption and promoting renewable energies; the fight against noise pollution; the conservation of natural habitats; as well as the protection and conservation of our traditional rural landscapes are some of the areas in which this municipality has worked and continues to work to improve the quality of life of its citizens, its visitors and its future generations.
