The Celebration of the Passion
The most important celebration on the Roman Catholic calendar holds place of pride in our municipality. Good Friday and Easter Sunday are the two big days of Easter Week, a time when Santa Eulària des Riu outdoes itself to commemorate the Passion of Christ.
The hilltop church, officially known as Puig de Missa de Santa Eulària des Riu is the hub of the Easter Week ceremonials. The site of this historical architectural complex is central to the rites of Good Friday, which feature a living Via Crucis that sets off from the town centre and winds its way up to the church. A midday concert given by the Municipal Band, the Mass of the Passion and an afternoon procession through the streets of Santa Eulària complete the day’s observance. Easter Sunday.
