Don’t stand there waiting at the finish line if you’d rather be running. In Santa Eulària des Riu you will find sporting competitions open to all and scheduled for the off season when temperatures are favorable for such exertions. The first event on the calendar is the (Uphill Church Run), a race held in the month of January which has become one of the most popular in the Pitiusas as it offers three different levels: one for children; the classic route, 2.2 kilometres long; and the so called Pujada Extrem (Extreme Route), an 11-kilometre uphill run with a cumulative terrain differential of roughly 800 metres.
Springtime brings two other interesting competitions: the Santa Eulària des Riu Cross Triathlon and the Cursa Popular Passeig a Passeig (Promenade to Promenade Popular Race), a 15-kilometre route between Vara de Rey in Ibiza town and its opposite number, the Passeig de s’Alamera, in Santa Eulària des Riu. However, if your visit is going to be in the autumn, don’t miss the Cursa de sa Sobrassada (Sausage Course) in conjunction with the Santa Gertrudis festivities at the end of November. This fixture is a half-marathon relay that consistently attracts a large number of participants.
