Caramelles de Nadal
Canticles that come to us from the distant past. Sounds that have travelled down through the generations…
In winter, another Ibiza reveals itself. We see a facet of the island that goes undetected during the summer swelter, when our main focus is on the sea, and beach-centric activities keep us close to the shore. The other Ibiza turns its gaze inward, toward its heartland, and, in the lull of winter, trots out some of its finest gems. Churches, farmhouses, wells and museums head the list of things to do and see. The off-season is a time when cultural pursuits can be given the attention they merit, a time when pine-covered hills and valleys undulate like velvet across the landscape. And, as temperatures cool off, walking and hiking emerge as attractive options for lovers of the great outdoors. Cyclists at all levels will find marvelous trails that traverse thick forests and then glance out along the coast. Winter is also a time of village festivals. And traditions. And steaming hot bowls of slaughter-day soup. It’s a time to horse around on the beach, to visit markets and to sun yourself on a café terrace. It’s a time to talk to people. And to discover the season’s primary treasure: the islanders themselves.
