An endless selection of memories awaits you in our hippie markets. Go find yours!
A signed piece, a pair of original-design earrings, a set of small-batch soaps, a garment made from natural fibres, a hand-crafted leather bag… First-person creations continue to give character and personality to Santa Eulària’s hippie markets, enticing enclaves where you will also find gastronomy, music, shows, and activities for the little ones. This is Ibiza at its most characteristic, an experience you’re sure to remember…
The island’s famous hippie markets got their start on the s’Alamera boulevard in the town of Santa Eulària. This was where, in the 1960s, the first young Europeans and North Americans began selling crafts and paintings to offset their disenchantment with the western way of life. But it was not until the inauguration of the Hippie Market Punta Arabí in 1973 that this activity became one of the island’s points of interest, a colourful, counter-culture affair in which the artisans living in the Sant Carles area would congregate to sell their wares under the shade of pine trees. Located near the Es Canar resort, the market is today the biggest on the island and draws thousands of tourists every Wednesday from April to October. It’s a fun outing for travellers of any age as there are shows and activities to keep children engaged and entertained.
The other famous market in Ibiza is Las Dalias Ibiza, held in the outskirts of Sant Carles every Saturday year-round as well as on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evenings in the summer. The wide array of stalls, the live concerts, and the charming grounds make this market a must on any shopping route through Santa Eulària des Riu.
