Listen to the stories that Ibiza whispers in your ear
The landscapes and scenes that meet the eye of the traveller take on a different glow when they are fully understood. The folk dancing, the traditional dress, the architecture and the characteristic scenery of the island cease to be disconnected lines in a poem once you visit our museums and trace back all the steps that have ushered Ibiza into the present day. Explore the island through its history and, while you’re at it, don’t miss out on its contemporary expression, which awaits you at its art galleries.
Drystone walls that mark out boundary lines across the face of the island. Thick-walled cubes and a millenarian past that captivated the rationalist architects of the 1930s for their extraordinary functionality and the beauty of their simple lines. Wells and fountains that acted as meeting points for harvest festivals and organizing community works. Dances that express centuries of cultural richness with every movement and sound. Sights and scenes that you will be able to decipher if you visit our municipality’s museums, a fascinating journey which should begin at Puig de Missa.
The must-see museums of Santa Eulària
Galleries and art spaces
Santa Eulària’s relationship with art goes back to the end of the 1950s, when the island began to be included in the itineraries of hippies, architects and artists. In many cases, what had started as a vacation away from the routine and conventionalism of daily life ended up becoming a long stay, or even a complete change of life and residence. A large number of those who were smitten by Ibiza found in the island a source of inspiration for their work and secluded themselves in farmhouses scattered across our municipality, while simultaneously staying in touch with each other for the interchange of ideas.
Today, our municipality has kept up its relationship with art, for which reason it is home to several artists’ workshops and art galleries, where you can find attractive pieces of local, national and international art.
Espacio Micus
Located in the vicinity of Jesús, this small gallery was founded and designed at the end of the 1980s by Eduard Micus, a multifaceted abstract painter from Germany. The artist moved to the island in 1972, living here until his death in the year 2000.
