Located in the eastern part of Ibiza, our municipality offers twenty beaches with safe, warm and transparent waters; tourist resorts that are quiet and family-friendly; specialized hotel establishments; simple walking and cycling routes that are suitable for the whole family; children’s events and activities; markets and even the first smoke-free beach in the Balearic Islands. Our wide range of services is designed for parents who are travelling to Ibiza with their small or teenage children, venues you can spot by virtue of the touristic distinction ‘Family Moments’, awarded by the Town Hall of Santa Eulària des Riu.
Santa Eulària with the family: Experiences full of fun
Making sandcastles and playing in the surf is a lot of fun. We know. But so is learning how sheep are raised, swinging from tree to tree, enjoying a pleasant walk by the sea, watching the escapades of a puppet or learning how to snorkel. Come discover all of these family experiences. They’re waiting for you in Santa Eulària des Riu.
Aquatic activities for parents and kids
On our shores you can enjoy a wide range of aquatic activities suitable for families, both for young children as well as teenagers. You can go for a ride on a pedal boat, learn stand-up paddle (SUP), try scuba diving, or have a laugh on classic water attractions such as the banana bus, the crazy sofa, or the ringo boat. Not to mention, of course, the kayaking routes and snorkelling routes that you can all do together.
Fun on land: activities for all ages
Beyond the beach, Santa Eulària also provides many opportunities for having fun on firm land. There’s no end to the possibilities! For example, zip-lining through the woods, getting behind the wheel at a go-kart track (suitable for children over three), or visiting an organic farm where the littlest ones learn about day-to-day life on a farm, are allowed to feed the animals, can walk through an orchard, and even see how bread and cheese are made. You can also discover some of the loveliest scenery in our municipality on board a tourist train, and explore our coastline by taking one of the boat excursions that ply the routes connecting our different resorts and hubs.
Family routes: Hiking and cycling
Santa Eulària des Riu is home to numerous signposted trails that wind along rural roads and hilly paths, bringing into view some of the most breath-taking coastal and inland scenery in our municipality. Our routes are always circular and, included in the offer, you will find hiking routes and bicycle touring routes that range from easy to medium in difficulty – perfect for families.
Two of the easiest walking routes are R8, whose nearly 7 kilometres pass through the beautiful fields of Santa Gertrudis, and R4, which allows walkers to discover over the course of roughly two hours the coastline extending out from Santa Eulària and the lower stretch of its river as well as such points of interest as the Ibiza Ethnology Museum and Puig de Missa. And, if you want to go for a spin on two wheels, Santa Eulària offers bike rental companies as well as simple bicycle touring routes, such as R6, R4 and R3.
River Route: Take a family walk through historic Santa Eulària
Enjoy an entertaining voyage through time by traversing this simple self-guiding route that starts at the Town Hall and finishes up at the Ethnographic Museum of Ibiza. Over the course of 3 kilometres, and following the explanations given by a fameliar, one of our most beloved imps, the River Route will take you around Santa Eulària’s historic sights while telling you some of the most interesting titbits regarding island life and the days of yore. A perfect plan for families in which kids learn about history, nature and customs!
Funny stories: The Barruguet Family Theatre Festival
One of the most entertaining things to do in the Santa Eulària springtime is to attend the Barruguet Family Theatre Festival, a popular and lively cultural event that is held on the last weekend in May. The festival combines paying shows with free ones performed in the open air, and attracts both national and international theatre companies. Many of the shows are based on mime and gesture so that you can enjoy them whatever language you speak. A must for families on holiday!
Fiesta of the First Sunday in May: Family traditions
If your trip coincides with this festival, don’t miss it! Declared a Fiesta of National Tourist Interest, this holiday offers visitors the opportunity to get to know our festive tradition, replete with its typical bygone dress, its music and its dancing. Moreover, around this time – the first Sunday in May – numerous children’s games and activities are organized. If you find yourself on holiday in Ibiza during these dates, come join in the Fiestas of the First Sunday in May!
